For Immediate Release

LETHBRIDGE, AB: Two Alberta target shooting associations are partnering to host the inaugural 50 Meter Solstice Match at the Lethbridge Fish & Game Association Shooting Sports Facility.

The Solstice Match is the only outdoor match (besides Nationals) in Canada to be sanctioned by the Shooting Federation of Canada to select athletes for the national team.

Both the Alberta Handgun Association (AHA) and the Alberta Smallbore Shooting Association (ASRA) are providing internationally licensed technical officials which is attracting the cream of the crop in target shooting talent.

Aerial Arthur, Shooting Federation of Canada nominated Pan American Team Canada athlete will be competing in both the 3 Position and Prone Rifle events along with her younger sister Avril while her father Arthur will be competing in the Prone event. Sheldon Dobish and Jeff Hunter have recently returned from shooting World Cup rifle events in Ft Benning, USA and Munich, Germany.

Local Lethbridge Sports Hall of Famer Stan Wills will be competing in the pistol events both Saturday and Sunday.

Gail Garrett, AHA President said, “Alberta has a world class portable MegaLink target shooting system, world class officials and we want to help our athletes become world class by hosting events in their backyard. We have hosted both indoor and outdoor shooting events in Lethbridge over the past few years and we plan on making this an annual event.”

Susan Eymann, AFSS Vice President said, “Our Associations are working very hard and strategically to put Alberta on the map nationally. As a provincial shooting federation we are very proud of the work the volunteers do to develop our sport throughout the province. Where many jurisdictions struggle to keep shooting ranges open, Southern Alberta is home to several ranges which are ideal to host events.”
