Rob McKeeman

August 30, 1958 ~ May 15, 2015

The Silhouette Rifle shooting community lost a great friend and excellent competitor on the eve of the 2015 BC Provincial Silhouette championship. Rob fought a difficult battle with stomach cancer all winter and it seems that just before the Provincials he decided to get a good seat for the show seeing as he was unable to shoot with us.

Rob was the Bull River Shooters Secretary/ Treasurer the past few years and was a keen competitor and friend to all. We all miss his kindness and his huge smile. Everyone enjoyed shooting with Rob. New shooters benefitted from his knowledge and willingness to help…I found a great picture of Rob helping a young Scout try shooting from a couple years ago and I could see his joy in teaching a youngster the fun of shooting.

Rob was raised in Golden, BC and he raised his own family in Golden as well. Rob was always happy to talk about his family: parents, siblings and his 3 children, Jessica, Taylor and Jeffrey. They were all able to help Rob through these last difficult months.

Rob loved the outdoors and spent many hours and days bombing around the countryside in his little 4x4, ever-present grin lighting the way! He loved to talk about his days as a hunting guide and was very proud to show off his beautiful game trophies. Rob had a great love for fly fishing, ATVing, sit-skiing and hand cycling. Rob was very proud of completing a 10km hand cycle race in 2000 and enjoyed participating in the Wheels in Motion events. He was very accomplished with leatherwork and enjoyed making beautiful native design paintings. He was always happy to share a tot of Scotch Whiskey or a glass of his homemade wine.

We all know Rob as a very accomplished silhouette shooter. He received a BCTSA Grand Slam pin in 2014. He was the BRSA Top Gun in 2014 and was BC Resident Champion in Small Bore (Hunter) 2014. Rob scored a 39/40 in a match last fall and we all shared his brief disappointment in that great feat, just falling short! Rob also loved black powder shooting and was a keen Rendezvous participant. He enjoyed shooting handguns and loved trap and skeet! He served as an excellent representative for the Kootenays with BCTSA.

Rob’s memorial service will be Saturday June 20, 11:00am at McPherson’s Funeral Home in Cranbrook.
